Choosing a word of the year for 2024 can seem daunting, especially if you don’t know where to begin.
Hello Love. It’s that time of year when I begin thinking about my vision for this year so that I can start working on my Vision Board. With so many roadblocks and unexpected challenges that were thrown my way (including the loss of my grandmother), it became challenging to put in the work. Although I struggled, I still accomplished many things on my board. This coming year, I want to shift my thoughts to what I know best: focus.
When selecting a word of the year to create your vision board, you must hone in on what you want to happen in your life. That begins with self-analyzing. This is the perfect time to be honest with yourself.
Ask yourself the following ten questions:
- What do I want for myself this year?
- How will I obtain what I want?
- Can I shift and put in the work?
- How will what I receive change my life?
- Will I be resistant to the changes I want?
- Will what I am asking for make me a better person?
- Can I genuinely envision the life of my dreams?
- What do I want more or less of in my life?
- Do I deserve what I am asking for?
- Will I wholeheartedly believe in myself?
Do you see a common theme among your answers above?
There are a plethora of words in the English Dictionary. You don’t have to choose just one word for the year. I like to have one main word that I carry with me; if there are words that fit my main word, I add them. Why? Because I am focusing on the whole person, not just one aspect of me. It’s almost like describing a person’s characteristics.
Choose a word that feels right to you. It is not a word you are “stuck” with.
Once you have selected your word of the year, you can use it for goal-setting and begin writing your vision. Place your word in a visual location that you will see daily. i.e., bathroom wall, telephone wallpaper. Select a new word if your goals change and it no longer serves you.
