It is National Vision Board Day! If you have been following me for some time, you know I have hosted a vision board party for my girlfriends every year for the past seven years. It began as a time for us to hang out with no children, enjoy food, drinks, and basically “craft,” as my friend Nicole calls it. Over time, I began researching the purpose behind the vision board. I knew there had to be more to it than just crafting. What I learned during the process was so much more than I had imagined.

You are probably familiar with a vision board, but do you know what the hype is and how a vision board can help you achieve your dreams?

A vision board is a visual and physical representation of your dreams, aspirations, and goals. It can help you stay focused on what you desire to achieve in life. Let’s discuss how to write your vision and make your board.

What are your goals?

Before you start creating your vision board, take the time to envision what you want to achieve this year. You can include short-term goals, such as saving money for a vacation, or long-term goals, such as career progression. Write down your goals and aspirations, and be as SPECIFIC as possible. For me, this process starts in November for the upcoming new year.

What materials do you need?

You’ll need a poster board, scissors, glue (glitter if you like it sparkly), stickers, and various magazines or other materials from which you can cut pictures and words. You can find many materials from the local dollar store or ask neighbors and friends for old magazines. I started using a large posterboard, but once I took my board seriously, I began creating smaller boards. Each board has a focus, from my health to my career, which makes it easier for me to visualize and categorize my goals.

Digital Board: You can also go digital and create a vision board using programs such as Canva and Procreate to take your board on the go.

What represents YOU and your goals?

Flip through magazines and find pictures and words that represent your goals and aspirations. When looking for words, be specific with that as well. Instead of using the word boss, be specific. It should be reflected on your board if you want to be the Human Resource Director.

What can you include on your board? A photo of the home you love and want to purchase, a specific amount of money you want to make for the year, or a hammock, representing a hygge life you seek.

Are you ready to arrange your board?

Now that you have your photos and words start arranging them on your board. You can use a theme or color scheme to tie everything together or organize them, making them visually pleasing to you. I love a good theme, and my eyes are attracted to soft colors, so my board represents me with that theme in mind.

Where will you display your board?

Once your vision board is complete, feel free to hang it in a place where you will see it every day, such as your bedroom or bathroom. It will help you stay motivated and focused on your goals. I love to hang my board in my bathroom across from my mirror. Doing so reminds me to read and review it daily, keeping my goals at the forefront of my thoughts.

Creating a vision board can be fun. It taps into the creative side of your brain. Take some time to make a vision board, and see how it can help you stay motivated and focused on your goals. I have seen many dreams, goals, and aspirations come true…That is because I have put my vision board at the forefront of my day. I’ll be hosting my annual V.B. Party soon, and I am ready to watch my vision come to life again!

Now is the perfect time to be intentional about what you want. Will you give it a shot and make a vision board this year?
