For years, I have wanted my home to be a space known for peace, love, and contentment. I wanted to live the ultimate cozy life….A life filled with simple, quiet moments with my family. It was not until a few years ago that I learned the term for it. Hygge. By origin of the Norweigan language, this Danish concept embodied all I wanted to encompass.

Hygge
A search for contentment

What is Hygge?

According to Merriam Webster, Hygge fosters a sense of coziness, contentment, and well-being.

Simply put, making more time to live in the present moment. Stopping to smell the roses, leaving space in our life where days are not planned with overwhelming schedules, and open arms of simple joys are all on the path of living a life of contentment.

How do you pronounce Hygge?

Hygge has an interesting pronunciation that many find a challenge to say. While I do not speak the language, I went on the hunt. I have read several versions of how to pronounce it. Wanting to do more than just read the word, I dug a little deeper. I thought it would be best to hear from one who clearly speaks the Danish language.

How do you pronounce Hygge?

Danes are known to be among the happiest people in the world. During my quest to find contentment, I began researching. Books and the internet were my resources. Thoughts of a simple life combined with moments of pause to enjoy being in the present provide an anchor of peace.

Many people associate hygge living with winter. While that statement is true, you can also capture the essence of hygge living year-round. Creating a cozy refuge will provide a sense of warmth and calmness that will guide us through difficult moments, giving us a sense of security and a path to pure joy.
